SPECIAL MEETING

As expected the special Council meeting to approve the amended budget passed by a 6-0 vote. Councilor Williams has a class on Tuesday night so she missed the vote. Councilor Storch accepted the inevitable and after expressing his regrets over the Council’s action of not funding the position of Chief of Staff and Public Information Officer vote with the majority.

With the exception of PMUA Commissioner and 2/3 Ward candidate Eke and former Mayor Robinson-Briggs all the public speakers  expressed dismay over the Councils action which all felt was short sighted and not in the best interests of the city.

After the Public Comment session before adjournment, Council President Rivers remarked that she was very upset about the Mayor using the PCTV to make a “political speech” being critical of the council.
In response to her query to Corporation Counsel Minchello about the legality of Mapp using the PCTV facilities for his “personal” political reasons.

The Corporation Counsel responded that he could find nothing illegal or even unethical in the tapes of that broadcast. But, that would not prohibit the Council from passing a resolution at a Special Meeting called for Thursday 5/29.

Both Councilors Greaves and Taylor remarked how disturbed they were about what “if not illegal was very unethical”.

Councilor Reid in a long discourse remarked that he was supportive of the Mayor but had to prevent a raise in taxes which were becoming a burden on the elderly. He would continue to see that the Mayor would be able to govern.

  1. Both Councilors Greaves and Taylor remarked how disturbed they were about what “if not illegal was very unethical”. ... kind of like Bernie Madoff saying you're bad for having bounced a check.

  2. incorrect Doc the lawyer said it was not illegal but he did not say anything about the video not being unethical? Also there was another women speaker who addressed her concerns about the 2 positions in the budget.

    1. she's the biggest puppet of them all, open your eyes! she literally leaned over at one council meeting to ask how she should vote. Watch the video of it

    2. Why does Jerry put anyone in office or on the ballot? So he can keep control. Vera is very good at that, even though she doesn't get paid enough to read her meeting packers. Her words, not mine.

  6. Did not think the tape was illegal, just in bad taste. What if the leaders of our city would sit down and have honest dialogue.Everybody included, not just mapp talking only to Williams and cory, but with everybody.I really like Williams but have to admit her facial expressions and body language is inappropriate for a councilor. She makes good points ,but people are watching her actions more than listening to what she is saying.Actions must really speak louder than words.

    1. You need to check Rivers and her facial contortions. If that's all that upsets you, then Williams is doing a great job.

    2. Taylor outdoes both of them with her facial expressions.

  9. Reid will only be on the council until January--as will (we hope) Gloria Taylor). Just how does Reid propose under those circumstances to "continue to see that the mayor "will be able to govern"? He must think he has a lot more influence over the council than he actually has!
