Will there be two Council meetings on Cinco de Mayo?
The probabilities are that there will be none. If Rivers,
Taylor, Reid, and Greaves do not show up
for the PILOT Special meeting which was called for by the Mayor, they will have
no legitimate excuse for their absence even if they do manage to be present in
time for a quorum for the Agenda Fixing Session.
But let us assume that the regular scheduled meeting takes
place.
There are 21
Resolutions and 3 Ordinances for second reading under consideration, plus
Garcias request for closing parking lots 8 & 8A for three days celebrating the
Independence of the US; the dates July11-13.
Garcia has a separate request for a fiesta celebration
Central Americas Independence on September 12-14.This involve closing the same
8 & 8A parking lots. This will be the 6th year he has held this
event.
The Maree Group/Voluntad Productions have also requested to
hold a celebration of Hispanic Heritage on the same Sept12-14 dates. This will
involve closing Parking Lot 9.
Both parties have agreed to conform to certain specified
conditions and have been approved by the Department of Public Affairs and
Safety.
There is a resolution to authorize a waiver of residency for
Denise Proctor as Public Health Officer. This position suddenly became vacant
about 15 months ago and was only serviced by a very part time individual from
the County’s office. Ms. Proctor is the wife of Rahway’s Mayor and is qualified
for the job.
A resolution to accept bids on the assignment sale of city
held liens on 14 properties will yield 617K on 992K owed. That is better than nothing.
Seven resolutions authorize the city to enter into contracts
with “certain state approved vendors for contacting units” he list varies I subject
matter and vendor for each resolution. If approved it means that contracts can
be allotted to individual vendors for products or services without competitive bidding
since the vendor has made a commitment to the state.
There is a resolution for an interlocal agreement with a
national cooperative entity (Houston-Galveston Area Council) for equipment
purchases.
A resolution authoring the purchase e of food services from various
vendors for the Bilingual Day Care Center. Not to exceed $60000.00
A resolutiom for $12,000.00 for the 4th of July Fireworks- the
program sounds great.
The agenda as presented does not appear to be contentious
and even those bent on giving the administration a hard time will not insist
that all appointments be made to local residents.
