A LITTLE POTPOURRI

What a beautiful day! At least the  part that I was aware
Still afflicted with Eastern Standard Time circadian controls thus although I may first awake just before 7DST and decide it is just too early so I will rest for about 20 minutes more; the next time I look at the clock half the morning is gone and the day is downhill from then on.

I know things will get worse since March Madness has begun and as of yet I have not watched a game, but that will change tomorrow with quarterfinals in the ACC and Big Ten.

I was going to do an in depth discussion on the flack about the so called Iranian nuclear bomb negotiations and Obama’s relationship with Israel; however once again the day has slipped away into night.

Thus the least I can write is to say that I agree with my son’s description of the 47 Republican Senators who sent that letter to the Iranian Leadership as ‘Idiots”. More to follow.

So instead at this late hour I am posting a little potpourri in the hopes of increasing our non-essential knowledge.

Some pundits have claimed that the Senator’s letter is in violation of the “Logan Act” a 1799 law that prohibits citizens without authority from attempting to interfere in the affairs of a foreign government. That law has never been successful used.

The Israelite election is on March 17. It will determine if Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu can retain his leadership which is being strongly challenged. Critical may be the Arab Citizens vote which makes up about 15% of the electorate, and this year the many Arab splinter parties have formed a single Unity Party which because of the Israel electoral system may have impact on the final configuration of the Knesset-the Parliament.

The Arab parties have traditionally won around 11 seats in the 120-seat Knesset. In Israel's parliamentary election system, voters choose parties rather than individual candidates, and the head of the party with the most political allies will usually win a presidential mandate to try to form a government. If the Arabs win as many as 15 seats they will be the third largest group in the Knesset.

Since no one party ever has a majority of 61 seats all governments must be by a consortium of parties including some that do not agree with other members of the group. And you think our Congress is bad.

So much for the heavy stuff; I am sure that it is of interest to all that Prostitution has been legal in Switzerland since 1942. German brothels have been allowed to advertise since 2002. I believe that there is only one place in Nevada where it is legal in the US.

Back to Iran; A few days before the Netanyahu speech there were reports that Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was hospitalized with late-stage cancer

However, photos of a healthy-looking Khamenei meeting Sunday with environmental officials in Tehran reportedly were posted online in order to “put an end to the Israeli-driven rumors” that the supreme leader was dying, according to Iran’s semiofficial Fars news agency.

Among medical news is the fact that a new skin test may eventually be used to diagnose Alzheimer's disease (AD), Parkinson's disease (PD), and other neurodegenerative diseases in living patients. The findings will be presented at the upcoming 67th American Academy of Neurology (AAN) Annual Meeting in April. The ability to differentiate between various causes of Senility will be important in determining treatment and prognosis.

By the way, the Deal is a bad deal.
