TOWN HALL MEETING WARD 3

Taxes, the PMUA and the Plainfield's Streets were the subjects st last night's Council's Town  Meeting in Cedarbrook School. Missing from the meeting were Councilor's Rivers and Reid as well as any member of the upper echelon of  Administration.

Since several 3rd Ward residents complained about inability to personally contact the Mayor by phone and  the Administration's ignoring of the Council's Town Hall Meetings  suggest that except at election time the public does not concern our Mayor.

Dorien Hurtt, a Candidate for the BOE questioned the lack of financing for Road Resurfacing and the Status of the 2005 Road Replacement Master plan after two residents complained  about the condition of Field and Ironbound Avenues while in their neighborhood a little  one block street was resurfaced.

Although Councilor Mapp pointed out that the City's ability to float bond issues for road  resurfacing was limited it was noted by a citizen that during the previous administration  and in the first years of this administration State Grants had made possible to do most of the roads. No explanation  why Grant money even before the Christie Administration had vanished.

Regarding pothole repairs Councilor Storch remarked that three pieces of equipment the city owns remains for the most part unused.

Perhaps the meeting's most startling moment came when  1st & 4th Ward Council Candidate Delois Dameron  charged a sitting Councilor for harassing her at her place of work.

  2. This city sure can waste money, and we know this administration can waste it more than most. If we have equipment to fix the roads, why has no one been trained to use it and why have we wasted millions of dollars. The patching I see being done on Park Ave. is a very poor, short term fix and most of Park Avenue up to the South Plainfield border is the pits. I know that is the county, but our Freeloaders and the mayor are wasting our money and not doing their job.

  3. Money, money, money, that's what it's all about. Sadly.

There's not enough of it to fix the roads properly. And there's more than enough of it that it buys us bad government and costly services through padded contracts to vendors and professionals who kick back campaign cash to the politicians who vote their approval for this cycle of legal looting of taxpayer dollars. You think PMUA is about garbage? Guess again. It's about big money, big contracts, and big contributions.

Take Councilman William Reid, who also sits as treasurer of the Plainfield Democratic City Committee, as well as being treasurer for Assemblyman Jerry Green and Mayor Sharon Robinson-Briggs. It's his claim to fame I suppose, a point he himself noted at a party meeting a few months ago. The former PMUA commissioner votes his approval for a contract, and then sits back and collects from the contractor or their associates on behalf of his political patrons, even arranging loans between the two from what used to be your hard-earned money. He should at least recuse himself from these votes that present a distinct conflict of interest. He hasn't in the past, and he's also pretty consistent with his votes against any enhanced oversight of city affairs.

Now it looks as if he has overstepped his bounds by confronting Council candidate Dee Dameron at her workplace in an attempt to get her to drop out of the primary race, so leaving the field to the ever-mute Vera Greaves who by all appearances is a loyal soldier under the command of the robber-barons Reid toils for. It looks also that the Councilman paid Dameron's workplace a second visit, this time luring in Council candidate Tony Rucker, who had met with Reid for clarification about the technicalites of campaign filing, and who by all accounts was unaware of the first visit and Reid's agenda, or that Dameron even worked there.

Reid needs to tender his resignation from the Council. His ethical lapses are astonishing. His disdain for the function of the City Council is a marvel. While Plainfield would gain immensely from following a straight and clear road, the money in politics is buying us nothing but a crooked path strewn with potholes.

  4. A grown man is lured? I don't think so. Rucker spoke out of three sides of his mouth, he was getting a donut, he didn't know she worked there, he didn't know where he was. His campaign manager Dwayne was there too. Doesn't smell right. Dee said she will take legal action if they ever come to her job again. Sounds like Jerry is still the man behind the curtain.

  5. Looting is right! The PMUA are a bunch of crooks. Reminds me like the mo - of course with less class and sophistication.

  6. People need to be very careful about false accusations. They are by no means the only ones with the resources and the know how to file a lawsuit. Defamation could prove to be costly.

  7. Anon, why are you calling it a false accusation? Dee said she wanted this on the record and the whole thing was on video, Tony Rucker finally admitted he went to her job with Reid but said he didn't know she worked there. Reid is his treasurer and the donut store and the bank are not close enough to go to her job by accident. When Rucker said he didn't know she worked there and he didn't know where he was the whole audience laughed. What he said is hard to believe. The other people at her job are witnesses. Maybe Reid will say why he and Rucker were there and maybe he will say why he was there last week.

  8. Anon 4:20- Why are you lying about Reid being Rucker's treasurer?
