HYPOCRISY JG STYLE

"Have you no sense of decency, sir? At long last, have you left no sense of decency?" Those words uttered by Joseph N. Welch the defense attorney for ther Army at the McCarthy Trial began the end of the Senator's career.

Hypocrite State Assemblyman, Speaker pro Tempore of the Assembly the self proclaimed third most powerful member of the Assembly, Chairman (in perpetuity?) of the Plainfield Democrat Committee Jerry Green should heed those words.

A problem of non certified in New Jersey school officials have become the subject of an investigation by the County Superintendent and the State Department of Education. This is how it should be , The results of their investigation may result in punitive action against the BOE and even the Plainfield Superintendent if there has been some illegal or even improper action.

Once the State and County offices complete their report it should be made verbatim public. Non sequetore names can be blocked out.

Our white knight Assemblyman Green has come charging to the Citizens' rescue by demanding an investigation by the Attorney General! (This sentence has had a syntax correction at 4PM to content and meaning is not altered)

OH THE HYPOCRISY: Green has shown no concern or at least made no public statement about the latest fiasco involving the Briggs Administration.

In the past weeks appointments to positions that the State does not recognize . The absence for over two years of a CFO needed to certify financial absences. The alleged use of a rubber signature stamp belonging to a person no longer filling what was an illegal appointment. The lack of details being provided to the Council. The submission to the State of a preliminary Budget that the council had not even seen much less accepted. The request for extraordinary state funds without Council approval. The prolonged non submission of the Administration's proposed budget despite next meeting promises. The obscuration of the Dudley House situation. Oh the list can go on and on. Non has called for the Attorney General to investigate Plainfield's Administration.

That may be understandably, since Jerry Green has repeatedly denied that he has any influence in the municipal affairs despite the fact he has often been seen entering the Mayor's Office probably in his role as her " Mentor".

By now even the most dedicated, most faithful, even minor beneficiary of Plainfield's Administration or Green's position in local politics must see the light. If you must vote, vote for the prospect of honest government at the City and State level. I can find no good reason to suspect a Republican gain in Freeholder's would make any difference. There the system needs a change.

  1. Jerry's Political Rule Number 1:
When under attack, attack something else.

But considering that Jerry claims to be Number 3 in Trenton, he's picked a pretty measly target: 2 (two) mid-level administrators in a mid-sized school district. Please, spare us from this nonsense. Stop wasting our time and money on these stupid diversions.

There's a planned FIVE BILLION dollar coal plant proposed for Linden, in his district, but Jerry's jerking us around over two local workers, over whom he has zero authority.

I beg you, readers, get rid of this guy. If he was ever useful he surely isn't now. The best he can do is to bully the school district in the press. That's a job for a weak leader, and the last thing we need in Trenton are more weak leaders.

  2. Doc, I am a little surprised that you have not commented on the PMUA news Letter that arrived this week. I was lost in reading the one page summary from the chairperson. Essentially I looked at her words as saying all of my costs are fixed, they go up every year and there is nothing I can do about it. If true then why do we need her filling the position?
First, the statement of absolute numbers means nothing without context. How do they compare with other communities on a cost for cost basis.
Second, she references an increase in the CPI for 2009 at 6.5%. Is this correct, I was under the impression that most costs were flat to down and did not the Social Security Administration just announce no COLA increases since we are actually experiencing deflation in 2009?
Third, she talks, on one hand about the yearly rise in payments for the UCUA for the processing of our sewerage. But on the other hand she laments about the lost billing the town received for sewerage based on Muhlenberg closing. The numbers here do not add up!
She makes a valid point relative to the Connolly issue, however i assume that the people living in the apartments are still paying their rent so it seems there should be some recourse to the authority for payment in the future.
What steps has she taken to reduce her internal costs, I have not heard of any layoffs above the supervisors level.
This letter, by the PMUA director, is just another example of a supposed high level manager who lacks the skills to be in this position.

  3. 5:22 pm I may not b e on the PMUA mailing list except for the quarterly bill, or as may happen occasionally some one else received my copy. Bills never get miss sent but checks do.

AS you know the PMUA was conceived during the Fury administration when he was the protege of Boss Green. The entire top echelon of Planfield Public Works Department went ov er to PMUA enmass. This was tyhe same timw that the City sold its Sewer Authority for about $9M. What happemed to the money is a mystery but it was not reinvested in Capital or infrastructure improving projects.

  4. PMUA was Mark Fury's bright idea but several Council members opposed it. After Al McWilliams went on the Council (Jerry Green supported his election), Al voted for it and it went through. As mayor from 1998 to 2006 he appointed every member of the PMUA board. The cost to taxpayers rose consistently during that time but it never became a political issue.

  5. 9:34 am -All your facts are correct. Al was the deciding vote as Councilman. Whethere it blieved it or not to be the correct move only Al could say.

I do not remember who were the commisioners he appointed, But the core staff were Green's people. Green supported Al until his second term when Al asserted his Independence.

Although Al and I did not see eye to eye I believe that is primary interest was Plainfield but no one outside his family or close contacts has any idea of his political aspirations. Plainfield lost one more political hope in his untimely death.

  6. Al "asserted his independence" in 2001 by setting up "New Democrats for Plainfield" and then in 2003 running a slate of candidates in the primary for Democratic committee and other elective positions with the same kind of attacks on JG we are seeing now. After losing the mayoral primary in 2005 he became a Republican, ran as a write-in and lost. He was supported by the Republican county organization and Plainfield's "New Democrats." Now we've got a rerun, or should I say a remake, of the same alliance.
