COUNCIL MEETING 10/5//09

One of the shortest agenda setting sessions on record highlighted by Mapp's charges of irregularities in the City-UCIA-Dornoch transactions. Plaintalker late last night posted a concise review of the "Monarch" issues.

Although Councilor Mapp noted that the Mayor had never executed certain documents that Council resolutions required, Corporation Counsel Williamson in reviewing some old resolutions opined that everything was legal. He also noted that the "Monarch Property" was not part of the master redevelopment plan. This will require further explanation by Administration.

The meeting in the Hubbard Middle School had one of the largest attendance at any agenda session. There was a large delegation of parents and children representing the 42 volunteers and 245 participants in, correct me if I am wrong, The Queen City Baseball League.

Apparently the City has received a grant from the County to the Recreation Department to provide a program for children in the age served by this league. Their league had had no knowledge of the grant and feel that the Recreation Department int ends to be in competition with them.

The age groups involved seem to be those that the "Little League , and "Babe Ruth" organizations served. Are these affiliations still active in Plainfield Or, was the Queen City an attempt to replace a dormant program?

The Queen City folks feel that the City has not maintained the fields where they play.

Administrator Dashield had more than one "I will get back to you.", some on Resolutions which he should have had the answers available.

Since I have commitments this morning, I too will get back to you today.

  1. Allow me to clarify. Plainfield PAL ran the little league for many years until 2008 when they turned it over to the remaining baseball volunteer staff who then formed Queen City Baseball. Plainfield Babe Ruth Baseball (the league Elliott Simmons' sons played with) was the first name used by PAL when PAL took it over from the Kwianis Club. Little league in Plainfield was never dormant. The Kids Trust Grant was money that was formerly disbursed to the major non profit youth programs (soccer,2 Pop Warner organizations & PAL. No one got any money for last year. The question should be why would Wynn keep all that money away from the programs that struggle for self sufficiency just to start a duplicate little league. Sounds vindictive to me.

  2. 6:25, Thanks for the info on the baseball leagues. I had lost touch since my son-in-law coached a little league team and grandson played right field many years ago at the Rock Ave. field.

To "yaaawn...." What would it take to interest you? Since the Courier and Plaintalker are more professional in their reports on Council and city politics I just try to supplement. If you have concrete suggestions please send them with name.
