TERRORISM

One  of the reasons that this blog  was late in posting was that I was going to write  more about Gloria's remarks Monday night, but then the terrorists attacks happened.

We, Western civilization, must accept the fact that we are at War. The war is not against a nation or a religious or ethnic group but against terrorist who happen to be Islamic.

Once again Islamic terror has struck at innocent individuals. The ISIS attack in Brussels was one that was feared and happene3d despite all Belgian counter terrorist efforts. Yes Brussels was known to be a center of radical Islam; the focus for the Paris attacks.

Terrorist Islamic attacks against civilians are not limited against Westerners but by various other Islamic groups worldwide, including the Taliban in Pakistan and Afghanistan; ISIS in Iraq local Islamic groups in Indonesia Somalia, Tunisia, and Mali: and multiple ones by the Boko Haram in Nigeria, and Chad. In these countries most are directed at native Muslims a well as Christians in order to cause chaotic and bring down the government.

Wikipedia notes that since January 2015 there have been 18 directed at Western Civilians. Some of the most notable were: January 7–9, 2015 – A series of five attacks in and around Paris kill 17 people, plus three attackers, and leave 22 other people injured. February 14–15, 2015 – 2015 Copenhagen shootings. A gunman opened fire at the Krudttoenden café and later at the Great Synagogue in Copenhagen, killing two civilians and injuring five others. , May 3, 2015 – Two gunmen attacked the Curtis Culwell Center during a 'Draw Muhammad' cartoon art exhibit in Garland, Texas . 2 dead (perpetrators, June 26, 2015 – 2015 Sousse attack – Attack in Tunisia against two tourist hotels, over 28 people died. June 26, 2015 – Saint-Quentin-Fallavier attack – Beheading in a factory near Lyon, head marked with Arabic writing and Islamist flags. Gas canisters planted provoked a fire. 1 dead, 11 injured. November 13, 2015 – A series of terrorist attacks in Paris kill 137, and wound 368. They involved a series of coordinated attacks which consisted of mass shootings and suicide bombings. This incident was the most fatal December 2, 2015, two people, one of whom posted on Facebook an "oath of allegiance" to the leader of ISIL, shot and killed 14 people and injured 21 others in a killing spree that the FBI was investigating as "act of terrorism".

The problem is that we must accept the fact that terrorism against civilians is the norm for radical groups, be they Islamic or of other religious and ethnic origins. This is a way of life that we have to expect. Indeed we have been lucky that except for 9/11 there has been no successful attack on our subways or tunnels or our power grids.

Fortunately, our mass public events except for the Boston Marathon have to date escaped attacks be it due to good intelligence and counter measures of which we should be kept unawares or just plain luck.

None the less that cannot go on forever. Thus we must realize that THERE ARE NO RULES IN WARFARE. We must use all an every means available to counter act which may mean access to all possible communications among suspected individuals. In this respect our Constitutional rights and protections can be violated as long as it is not used against non-terrorist suspect who happen to disagree with the authorities. If that occurs we have become a police state, no better than Putin’s Russia or Hitler’s Germany.

We must also understand that we have to be militarily aggressive on the ground and in the air to defeat the nucleus of the terrorists. Yes, we should avoid if possible collateral civilian casualties unless they are being used by the terrorists.

Have repeatedly stated that one cannot fight a war by rules when the object is to kill or preferably incapacity the enemy. Terrorist have no rules and we should not hinder ourselves with impractical idealism.

We must also be realistic in how we will conduct our war, knowing that we too will have casualties. But Cruz’s carpet bombing or reliance on airfare alone will never destroy the enemy. Britain’s experience in WWII should have proven that. That means we and trusted allies must have boots on the ground. The key is trusted local allies.

At the same time we must reject Trump’s attacks on an entire ethnic group including immigration and local settlements as well as their houses of worship. We all are the product of immigration either  voluntarily or forced. All have had to assimilate into the American culture and most have. Those who have retained their DNA of bigotry are as much a danger as terrorists. We should vote with that in mind in November.

  1. Hey oldoc, even Louis Farrakhan agrees with Trump on stopping immigration from areas of jihadist turmoil until we can better vet those who we let into this country.
As far as the border goes, many middle eastern terrorists are coming through mexico into the US. This is documented although not widely reported.

  2. And what about the homegrown terrorists such as Move On.org and Black Lives Matter?

    2. Blackdog, aren’t you off base in inferring these two legitimate organizations as representing terrorism because they have a conflict with your political views?
      Wikipedia states:
MoveOn comprises two legal entities, organized under different sections of U.S. tax and election laws. MoveOn.org Civic Action is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit corporation,[2] and was formerly called MoveOn.org. It focuses on education and advocacy on national issues. MoveOn.org Political Action is a federal political action committee, and was formerly known as MoveOn PAC. It contributes to the campaigns of many candidates across the country. MoveOn describes the legal structure of the Civic Action that of "a California nonprofit public-benefit corporation" and MoveOn.org Political Action that of "a California nonprofit mutual benefit corporation," and refers to both corporations collectively as "MoveOn".
Black Lives Matter (BLM) is an international activist movement, originating in the African-American community, that campaigns against violence toward black people. BLM regularly organizes protests around the deaths of black people in killings by law enforcement officers, and broader issues of racial profiling, police brutality, and racial inequality in the United States criminal justice system.

To couple a known bigot Louis Farrakhan who is known for preaching a separate Black nation within the confines of the USA with Trump as examples of what is best for this country is the height of asininities.

  3. They may have started out that way, after watching them for the past several years and how they operate, and who they align themselves with, that couldn't be farther from the truth. And Wiki is anything but factual on quite a few subjects. It all depends on the bias of the contributor writing the article.

    1. You are the ultimate bigot. Talk to Trump, he might still be looking for a VP. I'm pretty conservative and think you're way off base.

  4. Old Doc, I look forward to reading your blog every day, You always write in an informative, non-bias manner. If you look at the Southern Poverty Law Center's (SPLC) website you will see that the Nation of Islam is listed as a hate group, so to say Louis Farrakhan supports Trump is the same as the KKK supporting him. https://www.splcenter.org/fighting-hate/extremist-files/group/nation-islam. Being a Sunni Muslim, I would challenge Mr Farrakhan to show me in the Quran where it teaches hatred toward ANY man, let alone Jews and Whites.

To say that ISIS is waging a war on the West is another falsehood, it's just about how the media portrays it. Please look at this

ISIS is killing more Muslims than any other group, yet Western news reporting, by highlighting only the West, tend to feed a "Muslims are against us" mentality. Until we understand that it's ISIS against the World," including Muslims, we will not be able to defeat a common enemy. -Anon

    1. Terri , I am sorry if I gave the impression that ISIS and other radical Islamic groups are mostly attacking Westerners. I thought my third paragraph noted that the Islamic countries are often sites of terrorism. In fact in the last five years there have been episodes about twice a week in the countries I mentioned; too many to list in the blog. You are right that they do not get TV media reporting or headlines but are noted in the Times and WSJ.

    2. Doc, my post was not directed at you, I am truly sorry you took it that way. As I said in the beginning of my comment, you have always written in a fair and non-bias manner. I have the utmost respect for you and your tenacity for what is true and fair. Blackdog mentioned Farrakhan and his support for Trump, I was merely making a point on that support. The list was just showing an example of the Media's warped attempt to divide us.

    3. The Muslims murdered by ISIS are Shia not Sunni, and forget it if you are Christian or Jew!
ISIS is a branch of Sunni first exported and taught in Saudi Arabia called Wahabbism but they prefer to be called Salafi or Muwahhid.
As far as the SPLC, they are so far left of center so as to be irrelevant in todays society! They themselves belong on one of their hate group lists!

    4. The SPLC is one of my favorite "charities" and I have given annual support for over 50 years. It has been the best5 defenders of blacks against the KKKs and American "first" of this nation. U can't believe that you are associated with those groups from your previous blog comments.

Yes radical Islam does attack the Shia but also the majority of Sunni who do not accept their strict interpretation of the Quran. Orthodoxy in any religion tends to try to impose its concepts on all others. With ISIS and the Taliban etc that includes killing those who resist.
