This’a and That’a:




Unique among titles in the Plainfield Administration TO is that of the head of the Division of Economic Development   Jacques Howard as “Assistant Director of Economic Development”. To the best of my knowledge there has never been a “Director” of the Division; unless the Director of the Department of Public Works and Urban Development could also be considered to be actively involved in that division,

Considering those who have preceded Jackson as the Department Director that involvement is unlikely. So by title to who is Howard assistant?

If you have time; go to the Division’s Economic Development site on the City’s site and view the videos that resulted from the few years ago "Visions for Plainfield"  study. They are well done and once again high light the fact that this community has been spinning its wheels.

Also under PW&UD is the Recreation Division. Not only is there no “head listed” but also not any names of individuals to contact. I might assume that the youngster baseball conflicts have been taken care of since we have not heard any recent reports. It would be nice to learn the enrollments in the different age groups since the programs were to start on April 1st.

    I think the confusion may result from the years when the title of Deputy City Administrator was re-cast from ombudsman for citizens to head of economic development. Planning and Engineering and other functions were placed under this title, creating a department in contradiction to the charter. When SRB came in, the title was not used, so there was no head of economic development. Yet the "assistant director" person was still working. Thus the confusion.

    No, the baseball conflict has not been resolved by a long shot. The city has not and will not give qcbl any permits to play on any field here. In spite of all the talk from the current council president on how she wanted to resolve this issue, nothing has happened. Fortunately, due to the kindness of North Plainfield, the kids have been allowed to be a part of their league where they are actually playing and having a great time free from the harassment and bullying aimed toward qcbl over the last 3 years. The kids are happy and the bottom line is that is what it's all about and always has been.
