Regarding the "no" votes at the Council meeting. In all due respect Reid's emphatic NO should not have been a surprise to Council followers. At the Agenda meeting he reiterated his objection to spending money to hire a "budget consultant" and the original $85 K later reduced to $75K increase in Council Funds. The $75K is to fund an outside review of the Administration bureaucracy with the idea to reorganize the structure in order to increase efficiency and save money.
In both cases Reid felt that the City (Administration and Council) could do the job itself. He disregards the fact that we have had 7+ years of fiscal irresponsibility and essential leadership absence.
Would Reid have objected to an increase in Council funding to up their stipends?
Rebecca Williams "no" vote is understandable in that she consistently votes against professional contracts awarded under the fair an open process and not by competitive bidding.

Dr. Yood: my question is whether this study seems to duplicate or preempt the Charter Study? Maybe someone from the Charter Study Commission would weigh in.

ReplyDeleteBill Reid makes sense in backwards world. And of course he'd vote himself a pay raise.. apparently he needs it.
Pat, I believe that the study will focus on staffing as well as the department structures. The Charter Commission can suggest change in number of departments which would have to be approved by voters with charter changes.I believe that just to change number of departs can be done with State approval.
