That is a Strawberry? It is the size of a small peach and by itself would be enough for a Strawberry Sundae. Yes this is the 2013 edition of a fruit that in olden times would have been in its natural state no larger than an inch long.
Obviously this is an example of genetic engineering of food; for better or worse.
Another example of genetic engineering of food must be the extraordinary sweet tender bi-color corn that is in the supermarkets these days. To have corn in early June and even earlier this year is a marvel by itself. But can you remember when the choice was between yellow corn and if lucky sweet white "Country Gentleman"? I am sure that neither is a commercial crop now.
We have no idea how much of our food is the result of human manipulation. There may be some nutritional value lost somewhere along the line; but the results are increased availability of food to feed the increasing world population.
Father's Day weekend is over and tonight we will be into the routine of everyday life starting with the Council Meeting.
