If I waited for the daily newspapers, with my peck, hunt, correct typing I would not be able to post before near noon. Thus Mutterings has to be in divided portions.
Today's papers contain several items of government spending. The first has to do with the state's school aid. True Plainfield is the recipient of a 1% increase and it is # 25 on the total amount of state aid per pupil, but Elizabeth received an 8% increase and New Brunswick a 5% increase. It is also notable that some of the biggest Abbot districts received no increase in aid. Sadly Plainfield's increase only amounts to 1/2 of the increased costs for the Charter schools.
Why is Plainfield the only district in Union County to have Charter Schools and why are there four. Obviously this is a reflection on the district's past.We can only hope that Dr.Gallon who has proven to be a master of obfuscating verbiage can rectify the lack of confidence that parents have in the system. We must give him the opportunity.
However, I can not correlate the results for Plainfield with Assemblyman Green's stated influence.Perhaps for Dunellen or North Plainfield who received a 5% increase in aid.
The other disturbing news is in the enormous sums, 7.7 billion, "Earmarked" in the federal spending bill that President Obama signed yesterday Another campaign promise forgotten in political Washington. A great opportunity for reform seems to have been just one more item of election rhetoric.
Perhaps Gore Vidal was right when he wrote "It makes no difference who you vote for-the two parties are really one party representing four percent of the people".'
