STAGED TOWN HALL

In my earlier post I wrote: it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that all the audience participants will have been preselected. What is of importance, and I’m sure this has been hashed out by the two candidates; is if there an equal selection of committed Democrats, dedicated Republican, and honest Independents?

I have the answer from today’s Times; I quote Jeremy W Peters:
“There are 80 participants, culled by Gallup, the polling firm, from a sample of uncommitted voters who live near the debate’s location in Hempstead on Long Island. On Tuesday morning, they are scheduled to arrive at the site to begin rehearsals with the moderator, CNN’s Candy Crowley. They will have prepared questions to ask but will not use them during the prep session.” ----“Ms. Crowley will select the participants to call on during the actual debate, which she will determine by reviewing their questions beforehand. The campaigns are not allowed to screen any of them.”

The Moderator, Ms Crowley, will have complete control of the Town Hall format. Even the appearance of spontaneity will have been scripted.
