JULEP TIME

Oh for a quart mason jar filled with crushed ice, a half pint  of Bourbon, a cup of sugar water, a hand full of crushed mint leaves, in that jar. Wrapped in a towel and shaken well; a lounge chair (or a blanket) under a shaded tree and a good book. Better yet a "friend".  A recipe for a great afternoon.--Charlottesville 75 years ago.

  1. Doc,

That sounds so awesome, I think I will try it--my question: Jim Beam or Wild Turkey? Thanks for the recipe!

  2. Try Mike's Hard Drinks...Lemonade, Limeade, Black Cherry, Cranberry Lemonade and more... Great flavors that go down easy and are beyond refreshing on a hot summer day!

  3. Rebecca, In those days Old Forester or Old Grand Dad were the best since they had come through Prohibition as prescrible medicinal liquors. Yes you needed a doctors prescription to get a pint. Today I would use Jim Bean. If the towel was good the jar remained frosted for hours and towards the end the contents were pretty watery but who cared by then.
Cheep Rye from the ABC store would also do. Not for mixing my favorites were sour mash (Jack Daniels) and a single malt scotch.

Rob, might try one; but I am talking about the best years of my innocent life; college years and Bravado 101.
