Last night’s
Council meeting was a good meeting; business like and almost without any of the
nonsense that exposes the Councilor’s to ridicule.
The only
exceptions were minor;(1) Reid continued to vote against a Resolution hiring a
collection agency to recoup the unpaid high six figure sum owed the City Court even though it was awarded
to the bidder who would charge the debtor the lowest percentage fee. He has been informed every
time this Resolution was considered that the cost to the city was ZERO; The 17%
was charged to the debtor; i.e.: added to the amount the agency collected. (2)
At one point Greaves must have e spaced out, because she had to ask on what
resolution they were voting, and then appropriately abstained.
After strong
support by several residents, the Council voted to submit a grant request to
the County Open Space, Recreational, and Historic Preservation Fund for $63750.00
for the stabilization of the Lampkin Farm House so that this earliest 18th Century structure in the area
can be restored as in the case of the Drake House. The details have been discussed in blogs
relating to the Agenda Fixing Session.
Two
Resolutions were tabled; one at the City’s request for a contract replacement
of concrete curbs and driveway aprons prior to the County repaving the City’s
portion of Plainfield Ave from W5th St. to Front St. Vacations had inhibited
needed talks between the involved parties. It should be back on the August
agenda.
To my
satisfaction the Council tabled for future consideration the Resolution hiring the
Rogers firm and two ancillary agencies to study and improve the operations of
the Police Divisions. The City assured the Council that this needed endeavor
was not an emergency and could even wait for a new administration in Jan,
At the
request of Dottie Gutenkauf the Council voted to pass a resolution requesting,
as an aftermath to the disappointing Jury finding that Zimmerman was not guilty,
the Attorney General to investigate if there were any Federal Laws violated and
if so take legal action.
