Even in Oz the Voice of Reason is sometimes heard; however
brief as the moment may be.
One such brief moment occurred during Monday night’s Council
meeting. It must have been little more than a whisper because one Councilor inexplicably
ignored it. By votes of 6 to 1 the Council tabled Resolution 155-13 and the
first reading of Bond Ordinance 1256.
Both had to do with the adopting an Omnibus Ordinance for issuance of $4,845,000.00 in bonds and/or notes for
various Capital Improvement projects including replacement of vehicles including
fire engines that should long ago have been sent to the farm; as well as
various unmentioned street’s repavement. It seems that one of the streets is
East 3rd St.
Earlier the Council had approved on 2nd reading
the issuance of bonds for 3 million for Capital improvements.
In the short dedicated Public Comment section before the Council
discussed Resolutions and 1st Reading Ordinances; Dottie Gutenkauf pointed out
that this Ordinance with the other one was increasing the debt by 8 million in
a year when we still have not adopted a budget and the proposed one already had
increased money to be raised by taxes by some $2.5 million.
Another citizen dear to my heart remarked that last week
Council members had requested that this Ordinance be broken down in to at least
two separate ones with one dedicated to road
replacement.
The Council’s action will now cause this administration to
reintroduce this Ordinance in a more acceptable form at the next meeting; which
will be after the Primary election.

Doc, there was some confusion in the discussion of the roads projects at the agenda-fixing session. I, too, thought they were talking about EAST 3rd Street, but it turns out it is WEST 3rd Street. -- Dan Damon
ReplyDeleteThank you Dan for correcting one of too many errors in this posting. West 3rd is of course most logical considering source; however East 3rd was mentioned by a Councilor.
