Little noticed in the news was the fact that the Queen of
the Netherlands abdicated and was succeeded by her son; the first male ruler in
that country in over 100 years. There had been three consecutive queens on the
throne during that time. The last one Beatrix was crowned under a cloud since
her husband had been a Nazi. But since that country is a constitutional
monarch; the crown has little if any power; like England it is really a
Democracy.
Neither Union County or the Democrat County
Committee are a democracy. For many years both have been ruled with an iron hand by Charlotte
DeFilippo ,who after her tenure as Chair
of the County Freeholders became executive director of Union County Improvement
Authority: a six figure stay at home job that gave out large grants.
Her abdication can be attributed to the efforts of a
dedicated watchdog and blogger whose exposure of County nepotism and patronage jobs as
well as certain grants by the Authority led to ‘Charlotte’s fall.
What impact that will have on our local primary election is problematic.
It was Charlotte who insisted that Mapp have the line on the ballot.
Undoubtedly that was at the prodding of the Chairman of the local party.
If there will be any collateral impact on power broker Lesniak remains to be seen.
People are tired of Sharon and the fact that the PMUA is backing her won't help. She can't raise enough money and the fact that she is using city employees on city time to work in her cloaked campaign center is only going to reinforce the view that Queen Sharon needs to be sent to the chopping block, since she doesn't have the grace to step aside as the Netherland's queen did.
