2013 BUDGET

Tonight the Council will hold its Public hearing on the 2013 budget. The Council will discuss the dates for the budget deliberations, It will also select a 2013 Citizens Budget Advisory Committee; at least three members have had experience on this committee,

Since it is unlikely that any final budget can be submitted for approval to the State prior to the June meeting so once again a (#7) temporary budget for July will have to be adopted. One can only hope that the electorate will see fit to select an administration and Council that will be fiduciary responsible for the next four years.

The CBAC and the council have a tremendous job ahead of them with so much of the fiscal year funds already expended. There are many blanks in the document submitted by Administration that must be filled. As presented; of the proposed amount of funds needed for the proposed $73,577,214.57, general appropriations $52,472,671.35 will be from taxes. In 2012 $49,758,999.55 was raised from taxes for $$74,364,397.78 expended. It anticipates an additional $21,204,543.32 from “General Revenues which in 2013 yielded an actual $$24,605,398.23.

The actual anticipated property taxes do not take in to account the County tax or the School Budget derived tax which the Council has no say. If the revenue estimates are realistic in view of what must be a decreased tax base, the actual increase in the tax rate must far exceed 5%.

  1. I hope people remember that its Sharon's fault we're dealing with a budget and nearly half way through the year. You would think that in an election year she would do better, but no. If she gets elected the city will get the garbage it deserves and more good people and businesses will leave. I hate to see the city I love becoming a dump and thanks to Sharon Robinson-Briggs and her butt kissers on the city council.
