Since the following was not consistent with the subject matter of today's blog I am posting this short addendum blog.
The increase in hate crimes and religious intolerance both nationally and internationally should be a subject of great concern for all of us. This includes the rising denials of the massive genocides of the Nazi and Soviet eras. As well as this generations disregard to those occurring in various African Nations.
One need only read the inside of newspapers and readers comments to know he validity of this concern.
The sad part is that often those who claim to be most devoted religiously are the greatest violators of their faith's teachings. Those that claim erroneously they are adhering to the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence would destroy our way of life.
I can not forget that there is an old English idiom "People that live in glass houses should not throw stones". The subjects of "Intolerance" and "Bigotry" is one that all of us should take an introspective look. It would be a plus if the School System should take advantage of the programs offered for free by "The Southern Poverty Law Center". From their home page, "Our Teaching Tolerance program is working to foster school environments that are inclusive and nurturing – classrooms where equality and justice are not just taught, but lived. The program points to the future, helping teachers prepare a new generation to live in a diverse world".
All school districts in New Jersey should take advantage of this opportunity. It is the fact that although we trend to ignore it, according to the Southern Poverty Center's report on "hate groups' , New Jersey has an extreme large number of pro Nazi or KKK type groups. They are as great a danger to our freedom as the "Islamic Terror" groups.

You are aware, of course, that NOT ONE of Southern Poverty Law Center's top ten, highest paid executives is a minority, much less an immigrant, right?

In fact, according to the SPLC's hometown newspaper, the Montgomery Advertiser, despite being located LITERALLY in the back yard of Dr. Martin Luther King's home church, the SPLC has NEVER hired a person of color to a highly paid position of power.
I can think of better qualified "experts" to teach children about tolerance.
Mr. Keefe I think you may have reinforced unwittingly my point. You make a "racist complaint" without checking the facts. By "MINORITY' you mean African-American specifically.
ReplyDeleteBut you ignore completely SPLC's track recorded in bringing to justices those that have committed crimes against the very minority you complain are not represented.
Moreover what ethnic group does Lecia Brooks, who joined the SPLC staff in 2004 as director of Mix It Up at Lunch Day, a program designed to help break down racial, cultural and social barriers in schools, represent.
Yes, you probably think thjat Morris Dees is Jewish. That is far from the truth.
Oh. by the way among the Board of Director's membership are such non-minorities as Loyd Hackley, Julian Bonds,Vanzetta McPherson and Patricia Clarke. They should be models for all that raise the color card.
Please inform us of your experts.

Ditto here Old Doc. The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution are Secular documents, children of the Enlightenment. They are creations of ordinary fallible human beings who were very aware of their short comings and of the horrors brought about by the Reformation and Counter-reformation. Their great realization was that authority to rule devolved not from God or a god but from humanity itself.
ReplyDeleteWhat is shocking is how is how a group of fanatical Christian religious fundamentalist is trying to lay claim to these documents as God and Biblical creations which is utter nonsense. What’s worse the media tries to give these people and the idea of ‘original intent’ credibility.. What was the original intent of those documents depends on which of the founders you speak to. But, They were smart enough to give us a Declaration of Independence free from ‘the Mandate of Heaven’ making us fallible humans responsible for our own governance and a social contract, a legal document, the Constitution, binding us to the rule of law and guiding us in the exercise of that rule.
Unfortunately the new age of political correctness says it's ok and eve. n protected to degrade religious beliefs such as Catholicism, Judaism and most main stream religious practices or beliefs. The ultimate 3rd rail though of course is DARE NOT YE SPEAK ILL OF ISLAM. Which of course is the most ridiculous thing going. The NJ Transit worker on his own personal time who burned pages from the Koran who was fired is the perfect example. Had that been a bible..not an eye would have batted.
ReplyDeleteThe extreme religious right in America is the just as guilty as any hate group preaching their devotion to God..but actively preaching death to homosexuals, woman who believe in abortion and many other groups. Everyone likes to conveniently forget that "GOD" ( for whatever version you believe in ) is the sole judge in all beliefs of Christian, Muslim and Jewish faiths...Not man. People should learn to mind their own P's and Q's and the world would take a dramatic step forward. But, we as a people allow the Glady's Kravitz's of the world to actually have a say and not enough of us simply tell them to "Plug it Edith".
