Mayor Bloomberg Eliminates Teacher Raises to Save Jobs
After warning of massive teacher layoffs for months, Mayor
Michael R. Bloomberg announced Wednesday morning that the
city will eliminate planned raises for all New York City
teachers for the next two years, which he said would "save
the jobs of some 4,400 teachers."
In a statement released to reporters, Mr. Bloomberg said he
had spoken with Michael Mulgrew, the president of the United
Federation of Teachers, about his decision.
Comment: It is nice when there is strong aggressive decisive leadership that has no fear of their job loss that can take unpopular but needed action. Will there be legal and/or work action or strikes? Very likely. However if the people as a majority understand that 44000 teachers at work is more important then some selfish individuals raise so be it.

Doc, is it 4400 or 44000? One or the other must be a typo, but it's not a minor difference!
ReplyDeleteThank for pointing ut the typo. I got carried away. 4400 is a heck of a lot of teachers. Wish we could do a similar percentage.
ReplyDelete44000 is a helluva lot more than 4400. Which is it?
ReplyDeleteSEE ABOVE 4400
