GUN CONTROL

Saturday night’s Orlando killings will call again for reconsideration of “Gun Laws”

The shooter although having been on the FBI list was no longer   considered as dangerous and therefore his name had been removed from the restricted list. The gun seller had done the required checks and had no reason not to sell him the guns.

There will constantly be slipups on who can or cannot buy a gun. It is impossible to control how guns reach the street. What is possible however is to prohibit the sale of assault weapons such as the rifle used in Orlando as well as by the San Bernardino killers and other mass shooters? This is a minimal must.

Also stricter penal punishment for possession of an unlicensed weapon or the sale to known criminals is a must.

  1. The only people who obey the law are "law abiding citizens".
In San Bernardino the rifles used by the terrorists were legally bought ar-15 models that were later illegally modified by the criminals.
The rifle used in Orlando was a Sig Sauer MCX carbine, a modular, multi-caliber (able to swap to different calibers, including 5.56 NATO, 300 BLK, and 7.62×39) rifle system that sometimes utilizes STANAG magazines common to more than 60 different firearms, but otherwise has no major parts that interface with AR-15s in any way, shape or form.
Guns are not the problem, people are the problem!
And political correctness is to blame. People who saw what was going on with these perps, said and did nothing because they were Muslim and didn't want to appear prejudiced.
Gun laws didn't help France and they have some of the toughest in the world.

  2. What is scary to me is that these people proposing stricter gun laws have no earthly idea what they are talking about. An assault rifle is a fully automatic (one pull of the trigger empties the magazine) battlefield ready weapon (fully automatic weapons have been ileagal to own since 1934 by federal law). And no, the ar in ar-15 doesn't stand for assault rifle it stands for Armalite Rifle after the company that developed it in the 50s.
Just heard our brilliant president talk about the shooter in Orlando having many clips in his Glock. (People really think he is intelligent? Discussing a subject he knows nothing about as if he does!).
M1=Garand takes a clip. Glock handgun uses a magazine to hold the rounds.
In essence, clips feed magazines. Magazines feed firearms.

In fact, according to Bruce H. Kobayashi and Joseph E. Olson, writing in the Stanford Law and Policy Review, “Prior to 1989, the term ‘assault weapon’ did not exist in the lexicon of firearms. It is a political term, developed by anti-gun publicists to expand the category of ‘assault rifles’ so as to allow an attack on as many additional firearms as possible on the basis of undefined ‘evil’ appearance.”

  3. Honestly, these two blog comments are rather scary. The term Assault Rifle could have been created by the Easter Bunny for all I care - the fact is they aren't needed by civilians. Also, who the hell cares if the President used the right terminology regarding clips and magazines - the intent was to say the freak had additional ammunition at the ready.

  4. Hi Doc,

I grew up in a hunting family. We ate what we killed. I got a .22 rifle when I was 10 as a birthday present and knew how to shoot a bow and arrow at 8. I can't understand why people think the Second Amendment allows them to own automatic, military grade weapons. This is crazy and no one needs them. Hand guns and hunting weapons are enough. Why some nuts think proper gun control is anti-second amendment is beyond me and I was trained at 10 to know how to hit a rabbit in the head at 20 yards. Let's get real and not go crazy. The Second Amendment was written at a certain time for the events of the time. It was not meant to allow people to have their own personal arsenal. There are too many people and too many nuts who should not even have a butter knife on them, let alone a loaded gun.

    1. Bob thank you. The provision of the 2nd Amendment reads "A well regulated Militia.being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." The key word is Militia in an age when there was no Federal Army etc.It does not say for individual use although that was implied when hunting was a way of life. Semi-automatic weapons are not needed for hunting just for slaughter and can be forbidden without ignoring the 2nd Amendment.

    2. Thank you again, Doc. I could never imagine hunting deer, rabbits, or pheasant with anything but a rifle or shot gun, maybe a bow. It is a shame that the NRA has gone from a gun club group to the very right wing political group it now is. Thanks again.

    3. You are not allowed automatic military grade weapons Bob. They have been outlawed since 1934 by Federal law. An AR 15 may look impressive but it is just a utilitarian hunting rifle.
And Doc, the meaning of the 2nd Amendment does apply to personal weapons for self defense both against criminals and an out of control Federal Government. And this interpretation I get not from inside my own mind , but from the writings of the people who wrote the Constitution.
To take away people's right to own arms is right from Hitler's Playbook! Those Dems in Congress sound like Nazis!
Hillary also uses a quote from Adolf. "Societies rights outweigh the rights of the individual!"

    4. Blackdog - maybe you should use your time researching some of your conspiracy theories better. That old nonsense about hitler and hillary saying the same as long been proven to be false. They did both say "i need to use the restroom" - so maybe go with that one in the future.
