NOT ALL OF PASSING INTEREST

On June 18, 2012 the Council passed an amended Resolution reprimanding the Mayor for her action in the WBLS affair. One of the resolves was: Further Resolve, that the WBLS investigation report will be forwarded to the Office of the Attorney General of the State of New Jersey, the Union County Prosecutor’s Office, and to the Director of the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA) for review and any further action deemed necessary, and be it”

I cannot remember any follow up being reported at a Council meeting. Could this be in the “let us forget it bin”  among the other Council actions such as  reporting the status of the Monarch/Senior Citizen Center Claim , the PMUA investigation , the Accountants recommendation for corrective action, the CFO vacancy, the Corporation Counsel vacancy and the status of the Muhlenberg property as taxable land. Another one that I believe the public has not been informed is Councilor Williams' request for an accounting of funds from this years' 4th celebration.

How many have heard of the Grand Canyon University? If it were not for a sports page blurb that it had applied for admission to the WAC (Western Athletic Conference) which has just lost two schools to the Big East (obviously its transcontinental division) I would have been unaware of the “For Profit Christian Coed University located in Phoenix AZ; owned by Grand Canyon Education (listed on Nasdaq) It has some 40,000 registered students of which about 73% are women. I am not sure how many students listed are internet based.

The University of Phoenix is another “for profit” University based in Phoenix.  It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Apollo Group Inc., a publicly traded  NASDAQ 500 company.
The university has campuses and learning centers in 40 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Canada, Mexico, Chile, and the Netherlands. And in 2010 the school reported an enrollment of 600,000. Most all are part time students at night sessions and the majority on the internet.
There are 7 other colleges located in Phoenix including the University of Arizona as well as one with the intriguing name of Argosy University. Indeed Phoenix must be a hot bed of intellectual activity.
