Hello “Old Doc,”
ReplyDeleteTo start, I look forward to being an “old doc.” While I’m not pushing them eighties, I sure am dragging them seventies. I’m thankful for you and your commentary. You are right on saying new gun control laws will do nothing to stave off the awful events of Newtown, Connecticut. Someone bent on killing doesn’t check the laws before planning his killing any more than locks on our doors and windows prevent someone who wants to get into our homes. It is my opinion, the issue is not more gun control, nor is it that we need better mental health accessibility, and nor is it that we have shut G-d out of our schools, but rather G-d has been shut out of the lives of so many young people. Where there is no G-d, there are no absolutes, therefore, no constraints. Where there are no constraints there is mindless anarchy, or, do as you will, because there are no consequences. Unfortunately, wrong. Is there an answer? Yes, in the words of the prophets of old, national and individual repentance. Angelo
Angelo, great to hear from you. I hope you have a healthier 2013 and enjoy your late middle age (the so called golden years)

To control violence by decree ? I have 2 words. Timothy McVeigh. An evil person will kill with just a big club when they want to.
ReplyDeletecedeel 416Pearl High School, Mississippi: This incident began the morning of Oct. 1, 1997, when 16-year-old student Luke Windham entered the school with a rifle. Wearing only an orange jumpsuit and a trench coat and making no effort to hide his weapon, he initially entered the school and shot and killed two students, injuring seven others. He was stopped by assistant principal Joel Myrick, who retrieved a .45 cal. handgun from the glove box of his truck.
ReplyDelete“I’ve always kept a gun in the truck just in case something like this ever happened,” said Myrick at the time, who went on to become principal of Corinth High School, Corinth, Miss.
Appalachia Law School, Virginia: On Jan. 16, 2002, Peter Odighizuwa, 43, a former student from Nigeria, arrived on the campus of the school with a handgun around 1:00 p.m. and immediately killed three people, at least two of them at point-blank range. Two students – Mikael Gross and Tracy Bridges – both retrieved handguns from their vehicles and confronted Odighizuwa. As former police officers, both men were trained to subdue suspects but the fact is they were on the scene and armed, and helped prevent more killings.
Muskegon, Michigan: From the Aug. 23, 1995, issue of the Muskegon Chronicle: “Plans to slay everyone in the Muskegon, Michigan, store and steal enough cash and jewelry to feed their ‘gnawing hunger for crack cocaine’ fell apart for a band of would-be killers after one of their victims fought back. Store owner Clare Cooper was returning behind the counter after showing three of the four conspirators some jewelry, when one of the group pulled out a gun and shot him four times in the back. Stumbling for the safety of his bullet-proof glass-encased counter, Cooper managed to grab his shotgun and fire as the suspects fled.“
Colorado Springs, Colo.: On Dec. 9, 2007, gunman Mathew Murray, 24, launched an armed attack against the parishioners of the New Life Church that ultimately left two innocent victims dead. But the toll could have been much higher, were it not for the heroic actions of former police officer Jeanne Assam from Minnesota. In an interview she said she very nearly decided not to go to church that morning but because she saw a headline on her computer indicating that two young people were murdered and a training center for Christian missionaries about 70 miles away in the Denver suburb of Arvada, she changed her mind. Murray shot a total of five people before an armed Assam shot and killed him. There were about 7,000 people at the church at the time of the attack.
attempting to dissect and play Monday morning quarterback with any tragedy relating to someone going off the deep end is useless and non-effective and actually gives energy to the person having wanted to cause mayhem, pain and sorrow.
ReplyDelete- No automatic or semi-automatic weapons in the hands of the citizens. Law Enforcement and military..yes, absolutely.
- Rifles and handguns I don't have an issue with.
---- People will always find a way, yes, but we don't have to give them the ability to make it easy on them.
- The state of NJ attempting to form a commission to stop "VIOLENCE" such as this is a joke, a waste of resources and again...gives the madman what he wanted..to destroy lives and how others live it.
Easiest way to sum up "attempting to stop this or find our why" .. Look up genocides since World War 2... I do believe we said we'd never allow one portion of society to attempt to cause the extinction of another after we saw what the Axis Powers in Europe had done to the Jews.
Humans...not so good en masse with promises.
Perhaps we should have a teacher stationed in every gun store. That might be more effective! As I read else where: VA tech had its own police force on campus, but that didn't stop a crazed gunman. Columbine had armed guards, but that didn't stop a crazed gunman. Fort Hood was a military base, perhaps the only place that one should ever be able to find semi/automatic weapons, but that didn't stop a crazed gunman. How the NRA could actually stand there and suggest that we station someone with a gun in every school in the USA boggles the mind... Where is the conclusive data to suggest that having a gun in the hands of a "good guy" would help in that situation. The only thing that will help is if people can't get their hands on such type of weapons and/or the bullets that fill them. As Daniel Patrick Moynihan once said. Guns don't kill people. Bullets do.
