Council Meeting #1

Council.s meeting last night ended well after 11pm. Too late for Mark to meet his deadline. However he has four Plainfield stories in today's paper (on line).

Contributing in part to the length of the meeting was the fact that the 6 attending members were not all present until 8:10, Also the Council went into recess twice once for 5 minutes and when three resolutions which had not been presented at the agenda setting session for another 2 minutes in order for members to read the resolutions.

The Councilors also complained that there was a delay in material being made available to them or being "somewheres" in City Hall. With the magnitude of important decisions (and legislation) the Council has to make and the staff shortage due to layoffs it might be better for the Council to well consider the bi-monthly meeting so that it is not faced with urgent matters that must be acted on without the Councilors having an opportunity to review and have questions answered.

Also once again the public doors to the Court Room were not unlocked before the scheduled meeting time. This was due to a communication failure with the desk in the Police Headquarters.

Later today I am sure you will find a in depth report on Plainfield Plaintalker as well as some commentary by this blogger.
