First I wish to call attention to an error in my earlier post. Mr Tucker is on the Callands, Hendricks, Fletcher Change our Schools slate. I hope within the next 60 hours some abbreviated CV will be posted. He may post anything I missed as a commentary to this blog.
The Charter Schools are an issue that we as taxpayers must consider. It is the System's obligation to help fund their education unlike students attending private schools. Yet their roles are similar in that they teach a curriculum which is unique to that school, and are outside the system except for financial aid.
Charter Schools exist because of the failure of the Municpal School System to meet the children's needs. That is a BOE problem an established curriculum which will raise all goal levels of education. Provide that and the effervescent Charter School will vanish. Do not provide that and vouchers to aid religious school education will be mandatory. To demand for such vouchers are an attack on the separation of Church and State.
Yesterday a flier from the Office of the Superintendent of Schools arrived in the mail, Some 30 positive so called accomplishments were listed. They are intermixed and include many items that I would consider normal functions of the district. However two items stood out:
The first was that one unfortunately unnamed school in the disrict was awarded an $100.000.00 grant for (its) improvement. Noted that only 9 schools in the state received such a grant.
The second item stated that the NJOSAC showed that the District made double digit gains in all areas, and list numbers such as +69,+42, and a small +18 in operations. Without an explanation of what these numbers mean or if they are percentages and what was the starting levels this is a bit of worthless boasting.
Enough today.

The gains in NJQSAC are explained on the district blog. This was a key point years ago when the district got blasted by the state.I must say that it is a great accomplishment for the district thats been lost in the controversy. This is a state report that shows the progress of the district.
ReplyDeleteI got the flyer and actually appreciate being informed about the district.
