Once again have to commend the Charter Study Commission for their outstanding work resulting in the amended final report as presented Monday night.

Council should promptly forward the recommended revisions to the State Legislature for their approval as provided in the law.

One of the most important revisions is clarification of the Corporation Counsel’s position as the legal advisor for the city; not for the Mayor or the Council.

Although appointed by the Mayor with Council consent the Corporation Counsel is neither spokesperson for the Mayor at Council meetings as happened too often in the past administration; or the representative of the Council against the Mayor.

The report is available on the city site.
