At last there is information about the LWV Candidate’s’ Forum,
Tuesday October 28 at 6:30 pm in the Emerson School.
As usual it will be confined to the local elections.
Information about the races for Congress and Senate , State and County offices
has to be gleamed elsewhere.
Suffice to say I cannot remember any election as quiet as this one. Certainly one with National implications and the great possibility that the Republicans will also control the Senate

There are two slates and one independent candidate for the
three School Board vacancies. It should be noted that despite the opinion of some
when the election was held in April it was already a political event with the same
two factions backing slates.
Without favoring either the Jerry Green or John Campbell
slate, Prior to hearing the seven I would strongly recommend not to even consider voting a
slate but individuals, and of course give serious consideration to the Independent
incumbent, Dorien Hurtt.
Sadly the other election of importance to Plainfield for three seats on the Council in this overwhelming Democrat dominated town has barring an unlikely miracle been decided at the primary election.
There are two full 4 year terms to be confirmed; the 1st ward, and the 2nd/3rd ward seats. There is also one to fill the unexpired term of now Mayor Mapp’s 3rd ward seat.
As it stands Plainfield is doomed for another four years of a politically motivated government.

Of the five candidates running, only three submitted answers
to the LWV’s invitation. The two that did not were Jerry’s selectees who apparently
believe having been anointed there is no need to be known or accountable to the
Plainfield public.
Perhaps they do not understand that even though they are
elected as representatives from a specific area they are supposed to represent the
entire city.
Dianne Tolliver is unopposed in the 1st Ward so her
appearance would only be a token one; but who is she and why should she be a
Councilor?
After what appeared to be some Hanky-Panky from the Republicans led by George Gore, Gloria Taylor is now opposed by what appears to be a feather weight Candidate, Randy Bullock. Bill Michaelson is opposing incumbent Rebecca Williams for the 2nd and 3rd Ward seat
Both would seem to be running a silent campaign. However Council President Rivers had Michelson expelled from the last Council meeting because he felt that he had been "raped" by an appointment. It seemed that "being raped" can be used only in a sexual sense and it is a female prerogative.
It is hope that Bullock can make a positive impression at the forum so that this can be a true election and not the enthronement of a holier than thee individual.
I wish I could VOTE for Mr. Bullock. Big Bird needs to go
ReplyDeleteBased on your blog....you wonder why turnout is so low? Even
ReplyDeleteI, a diligent voter will sit this one out. Adrian Mapps appointment
of Eric Watson was the last straw for me. As for Gloria Taylor, she
is Gerry Green in drag. This city is...what it is!!! The Bastard Of
Union County.
The worst thing you can do is "sit this one out". The best thing you can do is vote for the "best" candidate available. In the 3rd Ward that would be Bullock the Republican. Write in votes if not enough play into Green's hands.
DeleteIt is a shame that Gloria Taylor didn’t even bother to submit anything to the LWV. I guess she feels no one can move her out of that seat. I will be writing in my vote for the 3rd ward council seat.
ReplyDeleteBTW, the NAACP is hosting a candidate debate/forum this Sunday at the Plainfield Elks on West 3rd Street.
Doc regrettable most people won’t vote for individually candidates, they will vote the slate that their favorite tyrant told them to vote. This is whether they know the candidates or not. For the BOE non-partisan election I can’t understand why we need the Republican slate that the Campbell’s handpicked and the democrat slate Green picked. For the past 10 + years the school board has been controlled by the same group, John & Wilma Campbell. No John does not sit on the board but you can rest assure that he dictates to his wife Wilma on how to handle matters and who should get contacts. Like the republican lawyers they just hired. Like the last lawyers who handle all their real estate deals and over billed the BOE, to David Rutherford’s mother who is close friends with Wilma being hired despite the fact she doesn’t have the proper credentials for the position. Oh and don’t forget about their brother-in-law (or whatever relations he is to them) Eugene Campbell as head of security. They have nerve talking about Mr. Green and him giving out jobs, they are no better but worst, REPUBLICANS.
ReplyDeleteEven you 3:01 know that none of what you say is true. You just think people are stupid.
DeleteI can bet you it's all true. You must think that.
DeleteThe big elephant in the race is Dorian Hurtt. Why have he separated himself from th fish frying Campbells? He got tired of momma Campbell running th district and the Superintendant not standing up for the children. Go Dorian you have my VOTE
ReplyDeleteYou hit the nail on the head.
DeleteI am so angry with the people of the third ward. I hope Gloria ruins them! (I don't really - but I am just so mad!!!!!)
ReplyDeleteanon 4:07...the 3rd Ward had a very good candidate in Charles MaCrae. Unfortunately he made the mistake of thinking Rebecca Williams was going to help him, instead she used his supporters to get herself through the primary. There is no local politician who has this Cities best interest at heart. They are only looking out for themselves, and the people they deem as loyalist. The people who make positive, observant comments on these blogs are the minority. We care, thanks to our bloggers we are aware of what's going on. Unfortunately, there are too many people who don't.
ReplyDeleteI didn't say I felt raped by the appointment of Eric Watson. I said I felt raped two years ago, when I found out about the million-dollar settlement. Watson's return merely reminded me of it, and as it was on the Council agenda, it made me want to comment on it publicly. Too bad I couldn't keep my eye on Watson or the Mayor, to see their reaction, but I was addressing the Council.
ReplyDeleteSorry Bll, I was not clear. All of us should have felt "raped" two years ago, an affront that has been compounded by the appointment. Blame this on post-turboprob effect.
DeleteIncumbent Dorien Hurtt is absolutely my choice for the school board in this suppose non-partisan election. The truth is, out of the seven candidates vying for 3 seats, Dorien is the only independent candidate. One slate is sponsered by the Campbells and the other three are on a slate sponsered by Jerry Green. Dorian made the decision to run on his own based on his experiences over the past four years and his desire to vote his conscious. Dorien believes that every child deserve a chance at a good education and politics or ones politcal aspirations should not be the deciding factor when making decisions that directly affect the children, parents and educators.
ReplyDeleteAs a current member of the school board Dorien has devote his full attention to maintaining policies that will embrace high achievement standards for all the students of Plainfield.
For honest, ethical, responsible decision making and to bring accountability to the forefront we need to keep Dorian Hurtt on the school board. Vote line 1 for Dorien Hurt on November 4. 2014.
Give some examples. Dorien Hurtt's only contribution is failure to reach an agreement for PEA contract.
DeleteWilma and John Campbell have full control of the school board. They control the decision making with the majority of the votes. So if you want to play the blame game... we can go tit-for-tat.
DeleteTo anonymous October 22,2014 at 11:12PM, Feel free to attend the debates or better yet why don't you plan on having an honest conversations with Dorien for yourself. You or anyone else for that matter can also request minutes of all meetings and let the facts speak for themselves. FYI, I’m anonymous 7:58 and hit send before I could sign my name. I believe in my son Dorien and I know how hard he works to do the right thing, I’ve watched him spend countless hours researching issues to come up with solutions to some of the problems facing our children. He reads and research his agenda items so that he is fully prepared when attending meetings, making suggestions and placing votes. Please remember, Dorien is only one vote on a board of eight, but he’s presence there is enough to bring about transparency and accountability for the entire board. I could be wrong, but I believe I know who you are anonymous 11:12. What you wrote is the same comment you made to someone I am close too; of course they came back and told me. I hope you share in my sentiment when I say, according to Dorien the school system has improved in the last 4 years but we still have a very long way to go. Having independent thinkers and doers on the board is only a bonus for us all. So when you make comments like the one you posted, you should know what you’re saying. To answer your question, the science lab is one of many achievements and suggestions Dorien has accomplished. Dorien is not the only board member on the negotiation team and it’s obvious you don’t know what you are talking about and how these things work. Doriens’ decision to run independently is not an attack against anyone nor is it a statement of alliance with anyone. So here’s some food for thought, Dorien Hurtt must be doing something right because at least 4 of the current board members are supporting him and his re-election! Because I posted something positive about him on the blog, there was no need for your attack.

Thank you Doc.
ReplyDeleteRobin Bright
Dorien Hurtt independent candidate? It is quite obvious he too is working with Jerry. Open your eyes.
ReplyDeleteActually he is not working with Jerry. Believe me you don't want to go down this road with me.
DeleteRobin Bright
Is the idea of a young man wishing to do the right thing and not wanting to follow any cliques so foreign to you that you have to make off the wall comments like this? That just goes to show how narrow mined you appear to be.
DeleteYou people are the meanest people on the planet earth, both democrats, and republicans. WOW! Calling people childish names, never having a one on one conversation with people you hate, for nothing but the mere fact you disagree with their politics and the people who back them. Plainfield wake up! This is ridiculous. Now some of you are straight up racism, therefore their is no hope for you or no rational conversation to be had with you, but all of you are NOT racist, just filled with hate.Disagree, it is O.K.,but please stop with the insults, name calling, and all the stuff that we teach our children not to be, or do.Let us respectfully say why we don't agree with others point of view.Would it kill some of you to be led by a higher power other than evil. The key word is Respect.Look, we will never like each other, but can we learn how to respect each other.None of us are perfect.
