ONLY IN OZ-SPECIAL MEETING

It was with a sigh of relief that I thought I was able to end the saga of the OZ Council and finish the blog that I am posting Friday morning.

Then out of the ether-net came bolt of lightning; AJ’s email announcing the Special Council meeting for Monday 8/26/13 at 7pm in the City Hall Library.

The only items that can be acted upon are  reintroduction  of two Resolutions that met similar fates last Monday night.

One was because of the lack of knowledge or political grandstanding by Council members who despite their pleas for guidance voted to defeat the Layoff plan which because of Civil Service requirements still would have to be approved by Trenton.

They had just approved an amended 2013 budget which had no available funds for the positions involved. Their action in preserving those position results in a violation of the law; unfunded jobs.
That is why this Resolution is being reintroduced to get the city out of an untenable position.

The other Resolution which is being reintroduced “RESOLUTION GRANTING THE USE OF CITY OWNED PARKING LOTS # 8/8A TO  MR. EDISON GARCIA TO CONDUCT THE 5TH ANNUAL OUTDOOR FIESTA DAYS CELEBRATING THE INDEPENDENCE OF CENTRAL AMERICA.” Was one of those that brought numerous speakers to the microphone to protest its adoption! Because there was only 5 Councilors present it failed to receive the required 4 yes votes.

It is heartwarming to know that OZ has a Council that is willing to give defeated applicants a second or third chance despite public comments. Indeed, it is the same losing position some Councilors took previously in objection to a liquor license denial for an establishment that had multiple law violations.

  1. How do you get emails from AJ with announcements. Seems like only a select few are always in the know! There's a lot of residents who would like to be privy as well!

  2. Anon 9:05- Have you tried going to the clerks' office and asking to be placed on the list?

As AJ brought the office up to the 21st century he started to email agendas to those who used to come in every Friday before the Council meeting to get a copy which became av available late that day; and still is if you are interested.

  3. To Anonymous at 9:05 am,

There is a notice for AJ's "Clerk Blast" on the city's web site--a lot of folks have signed up to receive notices electronically. All you have to do is send an email with the phrase "Add to Clerk Blast" in the subject line to:

    Ajalloh.clerk@plainfieldnj.gov

AJ will add you to the list so that you receive all the meeting notices, election results, ordinance passage, etc.
