THIS'A AND THAT'A

Two more days of traditional summer left before the Labor Day weekend. On Tuesday, September 6 the normal every day routine will again be in effect. The Council will have its agenda setting session that night.  If I have the opportunity to review in detail the agenda I will post something either Sunday or Monday. I

Hopefully, life will be returning to normal in this area at all will have electricity and water over the weekend although, some are still without current, public service deserves allocates for its overall reaction to the storm damage. As of Wednesday night PSEG had only 30,000 customers without service. That number and considering the original numbers after the storm reflects a superior reaction compared to the other tri-state utility.

Also outstanding and entirely unexpected was the operation of the Plainfield Internet site. Up to date information was frequently post ed.   Under the circumstances the emergency disaster operation seemed to work well. But only question still remains is the depths and completeness of that plan including definitive critical care programs

President Obama has declared many North New Jersey counties to be disaster zones. However, Union County was not up one of those days. I suppose someone will have to tell the residents of Cranford that they had no damage.

Although the streets were properly barricaded where trees and wires were down; motorists were forced to find their way around obstructions. This could happen anytime a road is obstructed. If I may make a suggestion, the posting of reflecting arrows on polls or trees would be helpful in guiding motorists who are unfamiliar with the neighborhood to the best path to follow.

Probably lost in the storm is the latest evidence of the modernization and change the atmosphere the critical City Clerk’s office. AJ has posted a compilation of all Plainfield commissions and authorities including their functions and membership. We now have the capability of knowing what each body is charged with as well as the status of their memberships.  Plainfield is most fortunate in having AJ as its city clerk. If only the rest of the administration would emerge from its prehistoric milieu.

One final bit of hurricane trivia today:In the last 60 years there have been at least 4 episodes  of “twin tropical/hurricane” storms
