Regarding the South Ave. reconstruction project, PLEASE READ Dan Damon's "PLAINFIELD TODAY" blog (Sept 8) for a complete report on the discussion relating to that project.
It is incomprehensible to me how any member of the Council either for personal political agendas or "principles" could cast a vote that would be detrimental to the City's "well being". This stretch of road must be made safe and present a positive appearance.
Well intentioned Councilors in the past made a decision which in 2011 is an untenable one . However, we have made our bed and must lie in it. Let us hope that the present Councilors will never make a decision that will turn out to be bad in the future.
I do agree with Councilman Mapp that political and legal if needed action be taken to return the State Highway to the responsible authority. No only will future maintenance costs be involved but such things a snow removal etc.
My memory on the transfer is very vague but I believe that the transfer of responsibility did not apply to the Plainfield Ave, and Front Street sections of the Highway. Some wheres, either in the city or State files, the papers must be available. I would suggest that perhaps old Courier files could be researched to find the year in which to look for the agreement..

I too hope the South Avenue project goes through. It is too late to change our minds now. This all should have been dealt with a year ago. Did someone put something in the water the councilors were drinking?
