Post Labor Day the world is back to "normalcy(?)". Today the House of Representatives meets and tomorrow the Senate begins its fall session. Tonight the Republican hopefuls are suppose to present their individual programs on how to save the country. That is after they finish bashing Obama and the Democrats. I doubt if we will get beyond "I have a plan".
Tomorrow the Presidents addresses the joint houses of Congress on the economy and what he wants done to restart the recovery. Both Houses will listen and then go back to politics as usual.
The DC area already has had an event that may be an indicator of what Washington will be doing the rest of this year. Monday night the University of Maryland flaunted to the world its new psychedelic football uniforms.
Last night both the Council and the BOE had meetings that should have been of interest to the local public. It is impossible to be in two places so I attended the Council's Agenda Setting Session which ended about 11 PM. I will comment later today and in coming days.
Plaintalker already has posted a comment about the status of the WBLS investigation. Suffice to say the initial reports suggest "improper conduct and financial procedure violations" occurred. Ina as much as there has been little cooperation form various individuals in Administration the Council plans to hold a Special Meeting Sept 21 (?) at which time they will invoke their subpoena powers in an attempt to clarify what and why.

Could you imagine looking your boss in the eye and telling him/her that the impropriety discovered over a year ago on the books was still being looked into?? Yes, that's right, you'd have been fired by now. It's a good thing that wasn't sum real amount of cash as opposed to that paltry $20,000 we are wasting our time with.
ReplyDeleteRob I do not believe that the investigation is a waste of time or that 20k by itself is "paltry". No matter what teh amount or when "improper conduct" and "violation of financial procedures" can be symptomatic of a major problem which can impact on the city's finances and operation. Small fraud is no less a crime than major abuse of funds.
ReplyDeleteThe point is...It ISN'T PALTRY the entire episode IS AND WAS IMPROPER and would never be TOLERATED in private business. The City Council, The Mayor, the employees involved have, by virtue of the snail pace..Investigation ( ????? All Agatha Christie novels could have been read 2x in this time period )made a mockery of the amount, the situation and the ultimate anti-climax that we all know will come of it. IT IS FRAUDULENT and it's a crying shame, but when the punishment is going to be at best, a hand slap at an executive session of a city council meeting it's hardly worth the time anymore. The election is right around the corner..Jerry Green will be snapping the reins and everyone will fall in order so that the local Democrats can show a nice happy facade to the voters. I'd love to be wrong...but I doubt it.
