ONLY POTPOURRI

Has Hell frozen over? A question that we could well ponder during this coldest period in over 5 years.

At first glance of the weather map at the time this is being written it may be true. The temperature in Hell is a mild -11. That is in Hell, Michigan and it is a Celsius reading which converts to +14F; about the same as here. It is also snowing there not like the mid-deep South where they have an inch of ice covering everything.

I suppose Hell can also be a state of mind and not a real place. And despite any biblical inferences it does not have to be hot. It can however be a true Purgatory on Earth.
69 years ago I found a spot that could fit that description. Try digging a foxhole in knee deep snow. December/ January in the Ardennes were the coldest place and time that I ever experienced. For all who were there in combat it was hell.

I have written about that in prior blogs, but may reminisce again, of course with some age improved embellishments.

Since today we are not being burdened by matters that will impact upon our future; such as government debt and the debasement of the value of our savings; perhaps we should turn to more critical subjects.

Of course the most pressing one of the day is “did Beyonce lip-synch”? To paraphrase Clark Gable “who gives a damn?”

It was a beautiful performance by a beautiful person. Either live or canned,  except for those in the immediate vicinity, it was heard over an artificial amplified speaker system.

If those watching on TV could not discern any aberration between her the motion of her mouth and the sound supposedly being emitted the world did not end.

My own non-professional opinion is that what we heard on TV was LIVE. I base that on the fact that long before she finished “singing” she had removed the earphone which could have been used for prompting in case she had a mental block. Of course it also could be used to keep her current with the sounds; but would it not still be needed if lip-synching during the last minute or so?

That should put an end to the controversy for all time!

I wish to extend my gratitude to Bernice for being my shill in her blog. I do plan to post some of my thoughts on the Charter from time to time.

  1. Guess there is some truth to the saying, "As cold as hell!"
2 years in Montana without electricity and indoor plumbing sure got me to respect mother nature. And you only forget to bring in enough firewood once!

Awhile back you were discussing gun control, check out these 2 articles.

  2. Just wondering if you or anyone has any update on what happened to central jersey arts charter school?

The last I heard was the education department came in and now all the people on the board of education and the mother and daughter who ran the school and started the school no longer work there.

    Is the school still open?

  3. Blackdog,The Australian experience is marred because the data is base don the fact that one type of weapon (semi-automatic or automatic)was substituted by another albeit single shot.

We can restrict the rate of fire, the number of rounds and the number of weapons that a person can legally own without infringing on 2nd Amendment rights.

  4. 3:43 pm I have posted your comment although it is germane to this blog. I would suggest that you direct such inquiry to the BOE.
Since you raise the question here, I would appreciate your forwarding any response.
Perhaps one of the other bloggers can answer you but I have not been able to follow the BOE which is not know for transparency.

  5. Cold as Hell????

Thought you might find this alleged response to a test question posed by a university professor to his students of interest... (it's been around for awhile)

and if you don't want to print it, I'm sure you will get a chuckle out of it as I have.

Is Hell exothermic (radiates heat) or endothermic (absorbes heat)?

Most students were referencing Boyle's law (Gas is cooled when it expands and heated when compressed) - or variations of the same.

However, one of the students wrote:

First, you have to know how the mass of Hell changes over time: You need to know how many and how fast souls are arriving in Hell, and how many and how fast they are leaving Hell. In my opinion, it is safe to say that once you're there, you won't be let out again. So, no soul will ever leave Hell.

When calculating the number of souls arriving in Hell, you have to take a look at the different religions in the world: Most religions declare that if you are not a believer in that particular religion, you will go to Hell. Since there are more than one religion, and most people only pick one religion for themselves (at any given time), it follows that everyone is going to Hell.

Given today's birthrate and subsequent death rate, the number of souls arriving in Hell is drastically increasing. So, you need to calculate the change of Hell's volume. Boyle's law states that in order to avoid temperature increase, the volume of Hell must increase proportionally when new souls arrive. This leaves us with two possibilities:

    1. If Hell is expanding at a lower rate than incoming souls, temperature will increase until Hell breaks loose.

    2. If Hell is expanding faster than the incoming soul rate, Hell will freeze over.

So, which of these two options is correct?

If we accept the statement given to me by young Teresa during my first year at the University, where she stated: "Hell will freeze over before I go to bed with you", and we include the fact that young Teresa went to bed with me last night, then option no.2 must be true, and we can therefore conclude that Hell is exothermic, and is already frozen (ref young Teresa's statement).

The consequence of this theory is, that since Hell is a frozen place, it will not accept any more souls, and Hell has therefore ceased to exist. We are left with only Heaven, which again proves the existence of a divine being. Which in turn explains why young Teresa last night repeatedly shouted: "Oh, my God!"
    "

Perhaps needless to say: This student got the highest grade in his class.
