Happy if rainy Father’s Day to all who qualify. I already
have opened the cards from my kids-some kids! All 4 are retired and two are
grandparents themselves.
The sun is supposed to be out after noon, and around 12:38 pm
summer will officially start, perhaps some warmer weather will return. The wildfires
have already begun to destroy parts of
California, the land of earthquakes, mud slides, and draught. .
Mayor Mapp's email message on Friday not only expressed the
community’s sorrow at the Charleston massacres, but among the other items in
his newsletter was some statistics ab out the costs of the Bilingual Day Care Center.
Of interests is the cost per child compared to 5 other equivalent programs in
area. The costs for those 5 programs ranges from 10K to 12.5K per. Child.
Bilingual Day Care’s costs are $15674.00 per child which is 50% greater than
the two lowest and 25% more than the most expensive.
While it is true that only 5 other program are compared they
are good programs. It seems that somehow or other there is poor control of costs at the Bilingual center which is characteristic
of most municipal programs or boards that require paid workers. That may not
only indicate that salaries are higher and there are more perks and most likely
a surplus of needed individuals as the result of patronage opportunities.
Perhaps statistics related to the above can be made available.
The determining answer, which Council should face, is it not
good business sense and tax dollars
savings if the same or better quality of
service can be available at 1/3rd the cost if sponsored
by a non-profit or even a for profit
organization.
Even those who do not pay taxes can see that.
Thanks for making my point, Doc. I hope we can give the same services to these children in need, but I don't want my taxes to be used in a wasteful manner when the same services can be provided by a private entity at a better price and similar or better quality. I hope the Council looks at this with an eye to taxpayer and children's needs. Thank you.
