This is an example of disrespect that the USA and its
President is receiving in the rest of the world. China’s President Xi has given
Putin the place of honor on his right. Obama is however two places over on the left
between the Presidents of Indonesia and Singapore ; very important world powers.
The Pope is coming to Philadelphia next September. It has
not been announced as of this time if he will visit the metropolitan area; but
my bet is that he will. The UN will be in its opening session and I am sure he
would like to address it on world
affairs.

Tonight's shower won't live up to those high standards. NASA scientists are predicting a peak rate of 15 meteors per hour, traveling at 44 miles per second, in what the agency called "a mild but pretty sprinkling."

The meteors are caused by the Comet
Tempel-Tuttle, which sweeps through the inner solar system every 33.3
years. Each time the comet passes closest to the sun it leaves a "river of
rubble" in its wake; a dense trail of dusty debris. A meteor storm becomes
possible if the Earth were to score a direct hit on a fresh dust trail ejected
by the comet over the past couple of centuries.

ReplyDeleteIt seems to me that President Obama is the fourth on the left, making the slur even worse. Putin is 5'7" and Xi is 5'11"--Pres. Obama is 6'1".
Is it possible that the picture is faked? I find it hard to believe that our Protocol people would even allow such a picture to be published- or that any American President would willingly pose for it.

Don't count the two in the second row, they are minor(?) officials. However even just Indonesia or Singapore on Xi's imediate left is a enough of a slap. I believe the Chinese released the photo. Obama could not refuse because he was trying to work a deal, which he did but there is some question who benefited the most.

ReplyDeleteI would say it is rather smart politics on the part of the Chinese. They learned under Mao in the late 60's that you can use rivals against one another in geopolitics. Remember it was after suffering some catastrophic military defeats at the hands of the Russians in some brief but nasty clashes along the northern border that Mao decided the US was not such an evil entity after all, and we had the historic Nixon visit after some friendly ping pong games.
