I never thought that on New Year’s Day many would spend the
time to read a nonagenarian’s blog. To my surprise that posting has had the great
number of hits in the 5.5 years that I have been posting. In fact the unique
visit numbers were almost double that of the usual well received posting.
Another and unexplainable result is the sparse comment
response. After 15 hours I had received only 3 comments. Perhaps that may be
because the concept is either unbelievable or too many accept it as a way of
life in a dying community.
For years the City Committee Chair’s most severe vilifying
appellation for someone who has exhibited contrary political views has been “Republican”.
That has been the rallying cry to bring out the troops.
On the national and state scene for all practical purposes
this country has had from near its inception an only two party system; nowadays
the Republicans and Democrats. At times that has led to inaction in the
government; most notoriously by the present Congress in which party politics supersedes
the welfare of the country.
In Plainfield on the surface due to an over 8:1 majority
there has on the surface been only one party. For the past 30 years there has been
a strong leadership for that party.
Never the less that is an illusion; for nearly 20 years there has been a faction
of opposition in the party. Thus on Primary election day there exists a de
facto two party system. By the general election there is no schism and the
campaigning follows the “Party Line”.
Time and time again has shown that although on the surface this situation has been forgotten; it seems to resurface under circumstances such as the
recent Council vacancy filling.
If we correlate the new Mayor’s position with Obama’s Presidency
it seems that the so called Regular Democrats have actively adopted the role of Republicans
in the City Council.
Once again a situation has risen that can only bode ill to
the city. There is a cancer that not even Obamacare can eradicate. The people
must strongly express their opinions now by voice and by vote when the proper
time comes.
