EARLY MORNING POTPOURRI

Got sidetracked, something easily done, but will resume part 2 of Council report b y noon.

Far away from Plainfield , Santorum has annuced the suspension of his bid for the Republican nomination. There now seems to be no effective opposition in the party to Romney. The extreme Right will focus on the Party Platform and look for a fight to position a commitment to contrevene the sepera tion of church from state. This will be supported by evangelistic Protestants and the Catholic Bishops.

The issue will impact on the selection of their Vice President Candidate. Since the principals are known part of the coming interest will be who each party chooses as number 2. I believe that Biden will not be on the ticket. Christie may be drafted.

As of today the real election campaigns will begin.

One of my biggest gripes comes from anonymous writers who are always playing the "Race Card". They are always full of distorted facts .

An example is a typical comment submitted to my April 9 blog Anonymous
said...'"Bob the 2nd Ward is tour district. I don't think any Black American's have support in your district." April 9, 2012 12:58 PM Delete

My response to this is: "12:58 comment is not worth a response since it is the typical bitch of a frustrated racist. Although I was unable to google a ward breakdown; the facts are that the 2nd ward is probably the most ethnic diverse ward in the city. The city's total ethnic numbers are 25,006 Africa-Americans;11724 White and 10024 who call themselves 'Others" plus474 Asian,455 American Indian/native and 26 Hawiian/Pacific.

There are 20105 who consider them selves Hispanic or Latino out of a total population of 49808
recorded in the 2010 census.

If any ethnic group would suffer in the city because of race it would be the whites. The fact that so many Plainfield residents are white long after the post 68 exodus would suggest that as a group they are comfortable in a multi-ethnic community.

I would also submit that their voting habits are influenced more by party affiliation than by the color of a person's skin.

At the State level the numbers are far different with a 6:1 white majority over African-Americans.

By the way, 12:58 what ward elected McWilliams and Williams? Or don't they count?"

Bigotry will never solve any Plainfield problems.

  1. Doc,

You are right. Bigotry never solves anything--the kind of race-baiting expressed by that cowardly, anonymous commenter only serves to polarize people. I was elected as the Democratic candidate for council during the 2010 primary, going on to win over a (white) Republican opponent in November of that year. The anonymous commenter's willful cynicism and lies are pathetic. Unfortunately, some folks still fall for this stuff. From another side of the political spectrum, we also hear this stuff about President Obama. It's all despicable.
