TUESDAY THOUGHTS

Winter is herein full force this week. However, if we are not thinking about political issues, there is at least hope. Be prepared to lose an hour’s sleep Saturday night; Daylight Savings Time starts Sunday. With it comes 40/50-degree temperatures, not sub-freezing.
Hope is a foreign concept when it comes to our Council who Monday night, with one objection from an unexpected source, voted to accept on first reading to abdicate is oversee control on hiring and firing in favor of the whim of the Mayor.
Since one of the Councils other charges is to approve contracts, another function which it has ceded to the Administration by its blankly in-block approving items on the agenda, should it not also vote to dissolve itself and save taxpayer monies that can better be used? But fear not; featherbedding is a rampant political exercise.
In DC not much has changed. Congress will pass a bill voiding the President’s State of Emergency, Trump will veto the bill and there will not be enough votes in the Republican controlled Senate to override the veto.
Trump will continue to emulate his dictator idols with autocratic actions which the public accepts just as we Plainfielders accept Mapp’s.
