Instead of posting this comment received today from "Blackdog" to my blog on Health Care relating to tomorrow's "Muhlenberg Memoria; Rally" I am using it as the subject of today's post.
"While it is true that Muhlenburg was a great loss to all of us and could have been avoided if our politicians had had our interests at heart instead of their own self centered concerns, having POP co-sponsoring the event is akin in my eyes to having Casey Anthony as the spokesperson against child abuse.
No one of good conscience would ally themselves with the devil to get converts for the Lord!

Another recent example of the addage that you can hide an ounce of poison with a pound of honey is the recent Verizon strike. The radical element within the union is using a legitmate form of protest to commit felonies in the name of the ends justifies the means. They need to be rooted out and prosecuted, but that can only happen with help from the honest, decent people who are picketing. To bring credence to their greivences, they must disassociate themselves from the wrong element within their midsts! "
Regarding tomorrows rally the author disregards the fact that it is a specific community need targeted event. POP's involvement at this point is questionable. The reopening of a definitive acute Health Care institution in the Muhlenberg campus is prob ably not a reality given today's economic political conditions. The needs of a community is obviously of no importance.
The author's contention that pressure groups take advantage of popular concerns to promote their self serving agenda under an umbrella of civic need is a valid one and deserves watching. The entities that do take advantage of those conditions are not only limited to the more radical left but all too often represent the reprehensive bigoted far right.
So read Blackdog's message as a warning that we must take care in if we support public events we must be sure that we are not giving legitimacy to anti-society associations.
Note: I did intend to post this morning some comments regarding the Public Safety Report this past Monday and ShotSpotter. I will do so by early afternoon since the weekend is upcoming.

Why would I never attend a POP rally ??
ReplyDeleteThere are too many hypocrites involved who openly support Jerry Green and Mayor Sharon...the 2 people who did NOTHING to prevent the hospital closing..the first words out of their mouth was about "what they were going to do AFTER the hospital closed."
They knew it was closing, they hid that it was closing, they did nothing to prevent the closing... People in the POP supporting Jerry Green and Mayor Sharon are either that stupid, or ignorant party line voters..neither are qualities I consider great when looking for groups to support or lend my voice to.
POP was responsible for turning out crowds at the initial protests of the hospital closing, and also to a large extent for the huge turnouts at the State Health Planning Board hearings in the high school and the final hearing near Trenton at which the Board approved the closure. POP initially sponsored what became the Save Muhlenberg Coalition, now the Restore Muhlenberg Coalition, which has organized tomorrow's commemoration of the closing. While I am not a POP member, I do appreciate the role they have played in helping the Plainfield community in this unfortunate situation.
