Harry Truman a True Man

The elections must have worn out all this world's "anonymous" commentators Only one pointed out that I spelled President Truman's name as "Trueman". He was truly a "man".Started out as a ward heeler under Boss Pendergast's machine in Missouri, and not only became President by accident , the death of Roosevelt, but was elected on his own right by defeating an overwhelming Republican favorite , Dewey. In fact Truman went to bed on election night trailing in the voting and the newspapers had come out with early editions trumpeting Dewey's victory.

I am to this day glad that my candidate lost.

A little history lesson from Wilkepedia;
"Truman faced challenge after challenge in domestic affairs. The disorderly reconversion of the economy of the United States was marked by severe shortages, numerous strikes, and the passage of the Taft-Hartley Act over his veto. He confounded all predictions to win re-election in 1948, helped by his famous Whistle Stop Tour of rural America. After his re-election he was able to pass only one of the proposals in his Fair Deal program. He used executive orders to begin desegregation of the U.S. armed forces and to create loyalty checks which dismissed thousands of communist supporters from office, even though he strongly opposed mandatory loyalty oaths for governmental employees, a stance that led to charges that his administration was soft on communism. Truman's presidency was also eventful in foreign affairs, with the end of World War II and his decision to use nuclear weapons against Japan, the founding of the United Nations, the Marshall Plan to rebuild Europe, the Truman Doctrine to contain communism, the beginning of the Cold War, the creation of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, and the Korean War. Corruption"

His greatest decision was to authorize the dropping of the "bomb". No on e will ever know how many hundred thousands even millions were saved by that decision.

Truman was not afraid to act in the face of public opinion. He did not hesitate to remove that would be Caesar, General McArthur, who considered himself bigger than the United States Government.

Truman had an earthly concept of politics, he is quoted:" My choice early in life was either to be a piano-player in a whorehouse or a politician. And to tell the truth, there's hardly any difference." Well you would have to be able to play the piano, and Truman could.

I was saddened that if it were not for President Obama's presence in Normandy there was the little mention of D Day in all the media and none in the local blogs. 6000 American casualties ,about 1500 KIAs was the price this country paid on that day.

Yesterday I wrote a very brief note;By the time some of the sleep fog started to clear, I realized that today was June 6!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is probably the greatest day in American History. It marks the tremendous sacrifice of young Americans to enable us to destroy the living Satan, Hitler

For those who consider themselves as a minority, spend a minute and reflect on what your life would have been if Germany had obtained control of Europe, and world domination. There were enough people in this country who would have happily emulated the Nazi policies. At best there would have been no "civil rights".

Memorial day has just been celebrated. There are fewer every day of my generation who can recall the horrors of the early 40s. On the City Hall grounds there is a monument with the names of friends, relatives, husbands and sons who have lost their lives in our Country's recent wars. Do not forget their deeds which have resulted in my freedom to write this blog and yours to freely comment even call me a whiner.

I always welcome any typo, spelling, syntax corrections. They do slip under the radar.
